Among the finishing materials, porcelain tile has earned a strong reputation for a practical, reliable and beautiful coating. It is superior in strength to tiles. The main differences between ceramic tiles and porcelain tiles are technological. The technology of tile production is the repeated baking of clay forms with their subsequent coloring and painting. For porcelain stoneware, a composition with the addition of a marble or granite chips is used, which is pressed dry under high (higher than for tiles) pressure and then fired once (at temperatures higher than for tiles).
Porcelain tile has excellent esthetic and operational characteristics:
- beautiful as a natural stone;
- equally good for interiors and outdoor decoration;
- does not absorb moisture;
- very durable;
- immune to external influences;
- wearproof and durable;
- frost-resistant and heat-resistant.
All these qualities make porcelain stoneware a universal finishing option. It is perfect for crowded spaces with high traffic and for open-air areas.
Spanish porcelain tile from Porcelanosa has its own characteristics.
- the material is more massive and contrast;
- porcelain tile perfectly imitates the structure of natural materials (stone, wood), and naturalness today is one of the leading trends in design;
- fantastically accurately realized the natural complex pattern of many veins;
- There is a saturation of shades.
Porcelanosa also produces anti-slip porcelain tiles. To obtain these properties, the plates at the final stage are covered with a thin layer of coarse sand.
Surface types of porcelain stoneware.
Unglazed porcelain tiles have a granular structure and have a very close likeness to the beauty and naturalness of natural stone, only without its characteristic shortcomings. Porcelain tile does not crack, does not have voids or foreign inclusions, is more dense, homogeneous, heat-resistant.
Glazed porcelain tile also has excellent technical parameters, although it is somewhat less resistant to external influences than unglazed. But this variety has an advantage in the form of a variety of designer designs, including color performance and drawing drawings and patterns.
Polished porcelain tile becomes brilliant, acquires a “depth”. However, due to the increased slippage, such porcelain tiles are not recommended for use near areas with high humidity, as well as at the entrance, on the verandas. In addition, polishing somewhat reduces the durability of the material and in the care requires the regular and thorough application of special mastic. But this glossy version is most effective. All the advantages of glossy porcelain tiles are presented in a very beautiful Aston collection. Four colors in combination with a glossy surface are able to give a unique look to any interior, decorated both in the classical style and in the spirit of minimalism.
Lappated (semi-polished) surface includes different areas: with dullness and gloss. This texture is very expressive, in addition, it is less dangerous and therefore has fewer restrictions for use. Porcelanosa Detroit can be called a fine example of porcelain stoneware with lappato effect – a collection of black with imitation of metal, suitable for modern styles.
The structured, embossed surface is the “chip” of Spanish porcelain stoneware. There is a wide selection of options: texture of leather, stone, wood, concrete, figured relief. Relief porcelain stoneware also has excellent anti-slip properties. Exceptional in beauty and showiness, the Porcelanosa Oxford matte collection is a wood stylization in five color shades.
The glossy Borneo collection is a magnificent imitation of onyx in three shades, giving the atmosphere luxury and harmony.
How to choose porcelain tiles?
When buying porcelain stoneware, you must pay attention to the weight of the products. If a tile with a thickness of 0.8-0.85 cm weighs less than 18 kg, then this is the “wrong” porcelain tile.
Another indicator is the recesses on the back. They should have a shallow depth and a length-width of not more than 2 cm, other parameters cast doubt on the quality of the tile.
Color and caliber should be the same for all tiles of the same series.
Choose Spanish Porcelanosa porcelain stoneware if you need:
- Quality factor and practicality of facing material.
- One hundred percent compliance with natural materials.
- Rich color and bright, but at the same time, harmonious, not annoying design.
